Equilibrium: state of a body in which the forces applied to it mutually counterbalance their effects. Normally we want this balance to be permanent, but there are situations of instability that can be resolved.
However, here I will try to explain that knowing the "forces" that are involved is very important to achieve a stable balance, both in the body and in the spirit. I will give some basic examples of these forces:
- activity vs rest
- tension vs relaxation
- joy vs sadness
- big vs small
- inspiration vs expiration
- anger vs serenity
- action vs reflection
- light vs dark
- noise vs silence
- crowd vs loneliness
- natural vs urban
- fast vs slow
- wet vs dry
- ...
There are many examples, but if we analyze just these, we can see that they are used in everyday life. It is not possible to always live in only one of the states, and balance is possible to achieve if we regulate its use and adapt it to each situation.
Of course, we cannot always be balanced at all times, and this regulation, in addition to being a continuous process, places us within certain limits that vary for each person.
Extreme demonstrations can make this process take longer, but gradually you can find the most effective form of regulation.
Broadly speaking, tension allows us to walk, eat, breathe, react; relaxation allows us to be more aware, reflect and rest. The experiences we get from each part are different but equally important.
It is normal to think that one should always be cheerful or active: but sadness also helps us to be more prepared for unforeseen situations, and rest helps to replenish energy and regenerate the immune system.
The forms of regulation vary, from behavioral therapies, exercise, massage, meditation or even the adoption of different lifestyles.
Just the simple act of working sitting down, or always with the same arm causes accumulated tension that causes pain, which can even become chronic and disabling.
Strategies in terms of knowing your body and when to take certain breaks or exercises can make all the difference in increasing your quality of life.
