Dress to impress? Dress to express? Dress to repress?
Clothing and accessories are also a form of individual expression.
Choices are made by color, shape, softness, function, trend...
And sometimes what you wear can turn from a blessing to a curse: beautiful shoes that end up squeezing and causing pain; tight pants or skirt that limit movement and end up tearing; a closet that doesn't stretch over the years; glasses with wrong graduation, ...
What we wear also has effects on the body, as it is a second skin, which protects us but also limits us.I talk about this last point in particular, because of the effects on restricting body movements, which is also important in people's physical and emotional well-being.Whether it's tight clothes that compress the body, block circulation and limit amplitude (let's remember corsets, tight skirts or certain types of shoes), these can cause or aggravatecertain types of injuries. It's no wonder that when we sleep or play sports, we try to wear comfortable clothes that allow us to relax or move around without restrictions. In the specific case of shoes, the issue is more complex.
Our feet support our body, and for that reason, changes in these muscles and fascia have an influence on the rest of the body. They have dozens of joints, and yet they are limited on a daily basis, causing some pain and tension.
Over the years, the design of the shoes has not evolved much, always with a toe cap or narrow toes. What was done to increase comfort was to increase the cushioned surface or support the foot so that it did not have to work (and thus become a little more lazy). In order to be able to move the toes well and thus stretch all the muscles and tendons, the foot should feel freer and better feel the ground (thus releasing tension in other joints, such as ankles, knees or hips). I don't wantIn other words, we should always walk barefoot, because with age the foot takes longer to adapt, but at least exercise the foot and pay more attention to it. Experiment with grounding and try looser shoes (but tight enough to wrap around the foot).
Movement is important, and it all starts with our support. Just as a house doesn't start with the roof or the interior, in this case we should also start with shoes and what we wear, so that we are comfortable and feel more like running around.
Finding a balance between "being well" and well-being may not be simple, but it is possible.
Bowen therapy is not a fashion consultancy service nor is it intended to stifle expression, but it can help alleviate imbalances caused by dresses that are too tight or shoes that are too tight :)
