Living one day at a time, but not always the same day

Updated: Feb 6, 2023

Yesterday (February 2nd) is marked in the US as Groundhog Day.

Around here he became better known because of a film ("The spell of time"), which told the story of a journalist who lived the same day for several consecutive days - he always woke up with the same music and to discover that the day did not change and I always had to deal with the same situations. One of the hypotheses was that he was under the effect of a divine punishment (or a spell), and that unless he changed his attitude, the weather didn't change and he couldn't leave.

Not wanting to tell the rest of the film, and taking into account that 30 years have passed and memory is no longer the same, I summarize that the journalist (after a period of despair) learned to deal with the fact of not being able to get out of there, and he took advantage of this lack of freedom to learn things that this cyclical time allowed him, ending up having an effect on his personality and on the relationships he had with people and situations.

Edit: Another more recent example is a Netflix series, "Russian Doll", which in a more raw and somewhat macabre way, tells the story of a woman who dies several times on her birthday, returning to an initial position, and who he ends up using the information to find some meaning in his life and try to solve problems. As if there were several layers, or several people that we discover in us.

Sometimes the same happens to us, both physically and emotionally, when there are situations of discomfort, pain or conflicts.

There are people who live every day affected by these situations, and because they have been doing it for so long, the pain becomes an integral part of the person ('living in pain' instead of 'living with pain').

The difficulty in finding solutions and hopelessness can lead to this state, transforming life into a more or less continuous sequence of unpleasant days.Although we don't have the same temporal fantasy situation as in the film, like the hero of the story, we have the possibility of finding something that allows us to experience the situation in a different way (it could be learning the piano, going for a walk, being with people or scheduling an appointment). Bowen's therapy session), and at least downsize the elephant in the room.Whether in situations of physical or emotional pain, although there is no universal tool that solves everything, strategy and observation allow you to mitigate the effects, and thus manage to move from a painful day to something different and more pleasant.

After all, who likes waking up to the same song every day?

I don't want to judge anyone, but unless it means something very positive to you, variety is also good and helps to give more value.

Whether in relation to emotions, some levels of pain or stress, it is important to recognize and take advantage of their existence, in order to be able to manage them in a more efficient and personalized way.
