The importance of stories in the therapeutic process

Stories are, whatever the context, one of the oldest forms of expression.

Its importance is undeniable, whether for preserving past memories, helping to understand the present moment or teaching for the future.

In clinical and therapeutic practice, it is used to investigate past situations (resolved or not), which help to quickly obtain more assertive diagnoses and prevent errors.

The telling of the story by the patient helps, above all, to establish a bond of trust and for him to feel that his opinion is taken into account for the treatment.

Another important factor has to do with creativity.

Telling or listening to a story develops the imagination and allows you to broaden horizons and see beyond. On the one hand, there are memories that reappear, on the other hand, situations are seen with different eyes and in the specific context, expanding the horizon and leaving the limits that we live in day-to-day. This sometimes allows us to find solutions for thechallenges or get new interpretations for what we feel.

Because each case offers challenges and consequently different solutions that go beyond the experience and general knowledge that each one has. Blockages that exist from both sides can be overcome with the exchange of ideas (or with new knowledge needs).

In a way, it is as if scientific progress does not depend only on solving challenges but also on curiosity and creativity to solve them better and better. That is, in situations where there are several solutions, it is necessary to look for the one that best adapts to each case, whether for simplicity or effectiveness...

For something basic, if for example if x^2=4 , x=2 or x=-2 :)
