HISTORY

Bowen Therapy was developed in Australia in the 1950s by Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916 – 1982). Tom Bowen had a great fascination with different body postures and their relationship with disease and muscle pain, in order to help people by alleviating their pain. Through practice and close observation, he developed the Bowen technique. Although he did not get recognition from the osteopathy area, the projection of his work allowed the development of this technique all over the world. Since 1986 Bowen Therapy has gained worldwide recognition and popularity. Part of this success is due to the fact that it is a non-invasive, gentle and effective pain relief technique, without forced manipulations, needles, massage or medication. Currently, over 26,000 Bowtech certified therapists use the Bowen Technique in Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand and Europe. (source: APTBowen)
