Mental health, pain and physical activity

On October 10th, the world day of mental health is celebrated, in order to alert and raise awareness of the social impact on the population. In addition to the associated stigma, it is above all important to adopt more inclusive strategies and non-discriminatory actions. As the spectrum of mental health has expanded more and more, access to diagnosis and treatment is increasingly necessary, not only through traditional medicine but also through complementary therapies and social inclusion mechanisms.

Since the brain is the main center of our body's operations, when there is a disturbance at the level of the nervous system, this can also be reflected at the physical level, through pain, tension and other bio-mechanical reactions. As there is no way to separate the 2 states (physical and mental), the importance of joint treatment has become increasingly relevant, especially to understand the person as a whole, and in order to optimize treatment.

In specific cases of anxiety or emotional trauma, complementary manual therapies, such as Bowen's therapy, can help not only physically but also mentally; touch, by promoting relaxation and releasing tension, also revives memories and sensations that will restore some well-being to the patient. In this way, communication is facilitated and a greater degree of trust is established, which is very important in these processes.

The commitment between the patient and the caregiver narrows and becomes a group work, a work that is not only physical but also emotional (and which goes beyond the walls of offices). Both parties are educated on the activities that make sense in each situation, adapting them throughout the process.

Physical activity has been an increasingly referenced factor in the fight against mental health, with several studies that assess the impact both at a physiological and emotional level. And also about the fact that it is never too late to do physical activity, as other studies reinforce the importance of it with a view to a less rapid aging (less sedentary lifestyle = less diseases = less cellular degradation).

If you haven't started yet, take care of yourself or ask for help. It's never too late to be healthier and live better.
